RE: COVID-19 CLOSURE
Agawam Library Updates
The Agawam Public Library remains closed as a precaution for the COVID-19 Virus State of Emergency. Please note that the library book drops near the library’s entrance will be opened on Monday, May 4th at 9:00 a.m. The drops will be open during limited times only. We expect many returns, so please be mindful not to overfill the drops. If they appear full, or your items do not fit, please do not leave items on the ground as they may get damaged. We request that our patrons only return Agawam items at this time. There is no state-wide delivery and items will not return to their home libraries for several weeks. It is worth noting that our items will be quarantined for one week upon their return. There will be a delay in items coming off your library card record and we ask for your patience. There is no rush to return items as there are still NO OVERDUE FEES accruing during this time. C/W MARS has updated all due dates and all items are due July 1st. Please continue to email email@example.com with any and all questions.
The library would like to remind our patrons that now is a good time to complete your 2020 Census. It is easy to access online with the code that was sent to you home. Visit my2020Census.gov for easy access.
We all have a story to tell during these unprecedented times. Our stories will be history someday. The library has recently launched Quarantine Stories, a digital archive to collect the stories of day-to-day life in Agawam during this COVID-19 Shutdown. The library invites all ages to submit their stories via our website or by email. Stories can include what it’s like to work or homeschool during this time. What are you doing to cope with the isolation? How is your family keeping active? Your stories will likely become part of a future exhibit and be added to the library’s local history collection. Submissions will be accepted through the Quarantine Stories form on our website. There is a separate submission form for children up to 17 years old. We will also accept email submissions: firstname.lastname@example.org
There is still time to enter our student poetry contest. Our Children’s Department is holding a student poetry contest for the month of April. Students in grades 1-12 can submit an original poem to email@example.com (pdf or jpg format is preferred.) Poems cannot be longer than one 8 ½ X 11” page and handwritten or typed poem on white paper. Please be sure all poems have titles and that the poet’s name does not appear anywhere on the poem. Entries will be taken until April 30th, 2020. Poems will be judged based on spelling, grammar, style & presentation, impact and originality. Contest winners will be announced on May 29th, 2020.
Our digital services for academic and entertainment purposes during this shutdown. Although our patrons will not have access to our physical collections, there are many resources available digitally and through our streaming platforms. To ensure access, we have relaxed some of our standard operating procedures so that more people can enjoy our online materials. Please visit https://www.agawamlibrary.org/research/databases-2/ or https://www.agawamlibrary.org/research/ebooks-streaming/ to get started. Simply log in with your Agawam Public Library card number and pin. If you cannot remember, or need to reset your pin, go to: https://bark.cwmars.org/eg/opac/password_reset.
Most of our streaming services are available as apps for mobile devices. Download from the Apple Apps Store or Google Play Store. Libby has thousands of eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines. Hoopla is another great source for eBooks, audiobooks, TV, movies, and music. Kanopy is a streaming film service that offers thousands of films, documentaries, and shorts from producers in the U.S. and around the world. In addition, our RBdigital service offers access eBooks, magazines, British TV productions, music concerts & college-level courses! Freegal is also available for downloadable and streaming music with a selection of over 7 million songs. In addition, the library is offering a free trial of medici.tv during the month of April. Medici.tv is a streaming classical music channel with access to concerts, operas, ballets, and documentaries.
Stay tuned to our social media outlets for daily updates and information. Please contact the Agawam Library with any and all questions regarding library services during the shutdown. We can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
