Black Wolf : a Dreamland thriller
Brown, Dale, 1956-

the President to handle the country's most deadly and sensitive jobs, the elite
SpecWare unit marries muscle to technological prowess. But can even Whiplash
stand up to a covert Russian army of genetically enhanced assassins known only
as the Wolves? The stories about them sound like sheer fantasy: the killers are
said to be nearly invisible and virtually unstoppable, endowed with super-human
strength and endurance. But when Danny Freah and company discover they do exist,
Danny stumbles on an even darker and deadlier secret: One Wolf, the most
ferocious of all, comes from the heart of Dreamland itself. And Danny saw him

The rabbi's cat
Sfar, Joann.
When the rabbi's cat wins the gift of speech by swallowing a parakeet, he uses it both to tell lies (that he didn't eat the parakeet, for example) and to
tell his own story. But now that he's lied, the rabbi forbids him from talking
to his daughter, Zlabya, and vows to educate him in the Torah. For his part, the
cat wants to study Kabbalah and he wants a bar mitzvah. But the question of
whether a feline can be Jewish must first be intensely debated by the cat and
his master. When Zlabya falls in love with a dashing young rabbi, both are
crestfallen and jealous, but the journey to meet the young man's secular family
in Paris provides additional opportunities for the rabbi and his cat to discuss
both the important and petty details of life. Vibrant with the colors, textures,
and feeling of a lost world (one where Jews and Arabs easily co-existed) "The

have no rules, and that no adventure, on land or sea, is more dangerous or

The Jew is not my enemy : unveiling the myths that fuel Muslim anti- Semitism
Fatah, Tarek, 1949-
Toronto, Ont. : McClelland & Stewart, c2010.
A liberal Muslim and critically acclaimed author explores the historical, political, and theological basis for centuries of Muslim animosity towards Jews, debunking long held myths and tracing a history of hate and its impact today. More than nine years after 9/11 and 60 years after the creation of the state of Israel, the world is no closer to solving, let alone understanding, the psychological and political divide between Jews and Muslims. While countless books have been written on the subject of terrorism, political Islam, and jihad, barely a handful address the theological and historical basis of the Jew and Muslim divide. Following the terrorist attacks on Mumbai in November 2008, in which Pakistani jihadis sought out and murdered the members of a local Jewish centre, the author began an in depth investigation of the historical basis for the crime. In this book, he uses extensive research to trace how literature from as early as the seventh century has fueled the hatred of Jews by Muslims.
He debunks the anti Jewish writings of the Hadith literature, takes apart the Arab supremacist doctrines that lend fuel to the fire, and reinterprets supposed anti Jewish passages in the Quran. In doing so he argues that hating Jews is against the essence of the Islamic spirit and suggests what needs to be done to eliminate the agonizing friction between the two communities.

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter : the Georgia years, 1924-1974
Godbold, E. Stanly.
New York : Oxford University Press, 2010.
"This dual biography of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, the thirty-ninth President of the United States and his wife, chronicles the unique political and
business relationship of a couple who together rose from obscurity to national
and international power. His life in an isolated, prosperous, locally powerful,
Baptist farm family prepared him for a career in public service and business.
Rosalynn came from a more modest, but well-connected and intelligent, Methodist
family in the town of Plains. Each was the oldest of four children, ambitious,
eager to learn, able to shoulder heavy responsibilities, and committed to
humanitarian interests. Together, they compromised their religious and career
differences, enjoyed a short career in the United States Navy, built a small
agribusiness empire, plotted political strategy, won the governorship of Georgia
in 1970, and announced his candidacy for President of the United States on
December 12, 1974. This volume, which covers the years from his birth to the
end of his governorship, offers substantial, detailed information about their
childhoods, marriage, personal lives, Navy career, business success and entry
into politics. In a racially-charged atmosphere, Carter won a contested state
senate seat in 1962 but lost the governor's race to Lester Maddox in 1966. In
1970 he won a stunning victory over the old Georgia politics, revealing that
Rosalynn was so emotionally and professionally close to her husband that his
career often seemed inseparable from hers. Carter shocked the state of Georgia
and the entire country with his statement in 1971 that the time for racial
discrimination was over, thus launching a national political race. Godbold's
research has spanned two decades, much of it in rarely seen documents in the
Georgia Department of Archives and History and the better-known Jimmy Carter
Presidential Library, both in Atlanta. Working from millions of pages of
primary sources, he has added contemporary scholarship, oral histories, and
new interviews. From academic and military records, the governor's
correspondence, the memories of the Carters, the accounts of Georgia and
national politicians, and public documents, this volume details how the Carters
rose to power, managed their private and public lives, governed Georgia, and
seized control of the national Democratic party. It is a blueprint for what
they would do on the national and international stages after 1975. The cast of
characters ranging from Jimmy, Rosalynn, Miss Allie Smith, Mr. Earl, Miss
Lillian, Brother Billy, Rachel Clark, Admiral Rickover, George Wallace, Lester
Maddox, Richard Nixon, Baby Amy, Charles Kirbo, Hamilton Jordan, Jody Powell,
and many more is set in a true Faulknerian tale that has changed the image of
the South in the national mind and the role of the South in the presidency. The
Carters were ordinary people whose dramatic and colorful story resonates with
human life, defeat, courage, inspiration, hope, and extraordinary
accomplishments"-- Provided by publisher.

Muriel's war : an American heiress in the Nazi resistance

society to a Viennese medical school, from Sigmund Freud's inner circle to the
Austrian underground. Over the years, she saved countless Jews and anti-fascists,

One from the Hart
Powers, Stefanie.
New York : Gallery Books, c2010.
The career of Stefanie Powers is one of so many stage, screen, and television credits that her name alone recalls memories as varied as her roles.
Groomed for show business at an early age, she began her career at the tail end
of the Studio System, a dynamic education in star quality and Hollywood history
she happily admits was "one hell of a ride." She tells of the time she broke
down in tears at a party over her divorce from actor Gary Lockwood, only to be
comforted with hard-won, been-there advice from two guests she had never met:
Elizabeth Taylor and Ava Gardner. She is also an award-winning stage actress,
fitness advocate, and an internationally recognized animal conservationist. But
in a lifetime of dear friends, no other had such a significant effect on
Stefanie as Oscar-winning actor William Holden. Here, she reveals for the first
time the extraordinary nine-year relationship they shared.--From publisher

Composed : a memoir
Cash, Rosanne.
Waterville, Me. : Thorndike Press, 2010.
A memoir from the critically acclaimed singer and songwriter. For thirty years as a musician, Rosanne Cash has enjoyed both critical and commercial success, releasing a series of albums that are as notable for their lyrical intelligence as for their musical excellence. Now, in her memoir, Cash writes compellingly about her upbringing in Southern California as the child of country legend Johnny Cash, and of her relationships with her mother and her famous stepmother, June Carter Cash. In her account of her development as an artist she shares memories of a hilarious stint as a twenty-year-old working for Columbia Records in London; recording her own first album on a German label; working her way to success; her marriage to Rodney Crowell, a union that made them Nashville's premier couple; her relationship with the country music establishment; taking a new direction in her music and leaving Nashville to move to New York; motherhood; dealing with the deaths of her parents, in part through music; the process of songwriting; and the fulfillment she has found with her current husband and musical collaborator, John Leventhal.
