youth art month Art Show of agawam public schools
The Agawam Public Library was pleased to have on display artwork from all of the public school students from grades K-12. Among the work that was on display were creative samples in various media including: painting, sculpture, and printmaking. The students had been preparing work for the "Youth Art Month Show" since September under the expertise of art teachers Debra Florek and Amber Waters from Agawam High School. Also, Melanie Samay from the Agawam Middle School, Jennifer Bonivita and Sharon Vasicek from Clark, Granger, Robinson Park, and Phelps Schools. Marcia Scherpa and Andrew Kraus from the Agawam Junior High brought students' creative work to share in the show. Youth Art Month is from March 1-March 31. This year's art show was a celebration of creative talent that is showcased yearly by the students of Agawam.

Thousand Cranes Studio students' (ages 3-17)artwork
The exhibit had over 150 pieces, plus clay and other 3D work. Several student scholarships were underwritten by the Agawam Cultural Counicl/Mass. Cultural Council, and nine others received scholarships through the Agawam housing authority. Thousand Cranes Studio also exhibited information about the studio's efforts, in conjunction with YMCA of Ridgewood, NJ, to raise funds to fight malaria in Southern Senegal, West Africa. A 2$ donation will purchase mosquito netting, which is the first defense against malaria, and can save a life. Nets will be delivered in person by a group of YMCA staff and youth in June of this year. For more information about purchasing artwork or supporting the malaria project, please contact the studio at 789-1039.

Gallery Walls Nature Photography of Lauretta Gregorie
Lauretta’s interest in photography began as a young model, working for well known local photographer, F. Newhall. While she posed for him, he would talk about lighting and how to create good composition. She applied what she learned, and turned what began as a hobby, into her life’s passion. “I love to play with the light, to capture sunlight dancing on the water or a crimson sunset,” says Gregoire. “I don’t digitally alter my photographs. I still use a 35MM. I like the challenge of capturing something beautiful or fascinating, just as it is.”
