Rules of Conduct

For the comfort and safety of all patrons, volunteers, and staff and the protection of library property, the following actions are not allowed:

Eating or drinking (other than bottled water & coffee w/cover) except where use
is authorized by Library employees.

Smoking, loitering and/or soliciting in or around the Library.

Being in the library barefoot or without a shirt.

Littering.

Verbally or physically threatening or harassing other patrons, volunteers, or staff, including stalking, staring, lurking, and offensive touching.

Using audible devices without headphones or with headphones set at a volume that disturbs others. Silence your cell phone while in the library.
Cell phone & pagers may only be used in the stairwell or lobby of the Library.

Stealing, damaging, altering, or inappropriate use of Library property, including computer hardware, printers, & copy machines.

Fighting or challenging to fight, running, pushing, shoving, or throwing things.

Creating disruptive noises such as loud talking, screaming, or banging on computer keyboards.

Sitting on top of study carrels or tables. Seating at tables, workstations and chairs is limited to the number of persons for whom the furniture was designed.

Lying down on any floor, table, or seat in the Library. No sitting, lying down or congregating that would block Library aisles, stairs, exit, or entrance.

Neglecting to provide proper supervision of children.

Leaving personal belongings unattended.

Use of skateboards, roller blades, Heelys roller shoes and other sporting equipment in the Library or on Library grounds.

All visitors are asked to respect the Library's educational mission and are required to behave appropriately while on the premises. This is particularly important on the Lower Level where patrons expect an atmosphere conducive to reading, research and study. Anyone who does not comply with these rules is subject to removal from the building and/or restrictions of library privileges. Enforcement will be conducted in a fair and reasonable manner.
