Quiet Study Room Policy
Availability and Location
Two study rooms are available on the Lower Level of the Agawam Library in the Reference Department.
Purpose
The study rooms are for use as a site for quiet study for one or two individuals. Such use shall at all times be consistent with the fundamental objective of the library to provide for all ages a suitable environment for research, study, and reading.
Eligibility and Identification
- Individuals 13 years old or older are eligible to use the rooms.
- The individual must leave some form of identification at the reference desk (library card, student ID, driver's license). A library card from the Agawam Library or another CW/MARS library is the preferred form of identification. When two people use the room, only one person must show a library card or other identification, but the name of all users will be recorded. When an individual or individuals leave the room, a staff member will check the room to verify that it has been left in good condition.
Time Limits
Study room use is limited to two hours when someone else is waiting to use the room. The study rooms are available until ten minutes before the library closes.
Scheduling
- Reservations may be made in person at the Reference Desk , or by calling the Reference Desk on a first-come first-served basis.
- Reservations may be made up to one month in advance.
- If a person is 15 minutes late for a reserved time and another patron is waiting to use a study room, the reservation may be forfeited.
- Reserved room time is not transferable to any other person, including family members.
- A patron is not allowed to ask another person to yield time in the study rooms.
- If a user leaves the room for more than 15 minutes, the room will be considered vacant. All personal belongings will be removed, and the room will be available for use by another patron.
- In support of agencies and individuals participating in literacy tutoring, the library accepts standing reservations for study room time from volunteer literacy tutors and their students.
Room Limits
No more than two people may occupy a study room.
Prohibited Uses
The following uses are expressly prohibited of library study rooms:
- Buying, selling, advertising, or trading products or services for cash or other consideration.
- Personal or family events.
Behavior
- Food, beverages (with the exception of bottled water), and tobacco products are prohibited.
- Individual(s) are responsible for leaving the rooms in a neat, orderly condition.
- Individual(s) must behave in a quiet, orderly manner.
- Individual(s) must comply with the Agawam Library's Rules of Conduct .
- Individual(s) who are disorderly, who fail to comply with the study room policy, or who fail to comply with the Agawam Library's Rules of Conduct, will be asked to leave and may be suspended from using the room in the future.
