Purpose

From our By-Laws, "the purpose of this organization is to establish closer relations between the Agawam Public Library and the people it serves; to promote informed interest in its function, resources, services, and needs; to confer with the staff of the Agawam Public Library on matters related to the welfare of the institution; to stimulate and receive gifts, endowments and bequests for the benefit of the Library; and to support the development of a program for the extension and improvement of the Library's services and programs."

In practical terms, one of our activities will be to engage in fundraising activities that will allow the library to purchase materials and equipment that it might not otherwise be able to obtain. Some of the fundraising activities will include an annual book sale, sponsorship of speakers, and the production of publications that can be sold. Decisions about what items will be purchased for the library will be made in close consultation with the library staff.

Another activity related to our purpose is the provision of volunteers to augment the activities of the Library staff. Again, the activities of the volunteers will be coordinated with the Library staff. The activities of the volunteers will allow the library staff to carry out their professional responsibilities.
